The joys of frustrating days

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday was a wee bit of a frustrating day. Since i still do not have a car, the whole family woke up shy of seven in the morning to take daddy to the Fire Station. I figured, since we were going all the way into town, i might as well use our time and head to the beach - which is an extremely useful tool for wearing out children. We got there about eight thirty and i was most surprised to see there was plenty of people there already! I loaded the kids with sunscreen, set up the umbrella, the cooler and all of their toys for their entertainment (let's try to give mommy at least ten minutes of relaxation.) My son and I threw the ball while my daughter kept going underwater seeking for 'cool' shells. Around i want to say nine fourty, the already existing clouds started to get darker and darker. The lightning on the horizon displayed a wonderful sight for us all to enjoy and the thunder was deafening - my kind of weather, just not when at the beach! I hoped the storm would pass shortly as it is usually the case here in Florida, however, it darkened even more and a curtain of rain appeared just a few miles from us, obviously, headed our way. I kept my hope up until the very last minute, and I mean, I was superwoman getting everything ready for us to bolt towards the truck. I quickly put all the beach toys away (they probably have about ten buckets, fifteen to twenty shovels, trucks for my son, some dolls for my daughter, floaties), closed the beach chair, undid the umbrella and shoved it back into its bag - by then it was already drizzling and the kids, as well as everyone else on the beach, became frantic. I donned everything i just previously mentioned and we all started our trot towards the street which would ultimately lead us to our car. As i carried the beach chair on my left shoulder along with the umbrella that kept hitting me on the leg and the bag of toys on the left hand I also had the beach bag on my right shoulder with the cooler on that hand, i looked like a bag lady. The rain had become steady and the drops seemed larger than usual. Everyone was running by then and it didn't help that my sun glasses kept sliding down my nose as everytime i would try to pick them back up something else would fall. We finally made it to the parking lot and onto the truck. Long story short, less than a block away it was absolutely sunny and no visible signs of rain, so i decided to wait a little bit by the beach (inside the truck) and see if it lightened. Five minutes. Ten minutes. By fifteen I was already done with the beach and headed on our thirty minute drive home. The rest of the day was frustrating as well - our cable/internet company ripped us off therefore we cancelled our service and it is very hard to entertain small kids to the point where they might actually leave you alone for more than ten minutes. For some reason I had my mind set that I wanted to write and I wanted to do it right then, so as I kept being interrupted and the words were failing me completely, I gave up on the day. By seven thirty we were already in bed. Since my husband works 24 hours straight, the kids and I watched Despicable Me in bed and they ended up falling asleep half through the movie. Once they were snoring I reached for my laptop and decided to get some writing down. Instead i kept getting my son's foot and sometimes whole leg onto my keyboard (Please see picture below)

Have you ever had one of those days where you just wanna call it quits and go to bed really early? Comment on your stories if you would like to share :)

Hope everyone had a wonderful day!!

XOXO
Lucy
